Great videography is a communication tool of unrivaled effect. It can change history, inspire action, share emotions and spread knowledge. Great videos are always viewed and talked about. Everybody can appreciate good videography. From kids to parents. and all walks of life. At the touch of a button or a mouse any person has access to an abundant resource of videos to view. The best videos are shared countless of times online leading to the viral nature.
Even amateur video gets attention. The more genuine and raw, the better the subject is accepted and appreciated. Then you have your wedding videography which I believe is a whole new artform in the century. The best wedding videographers are idolized and possess a semi-celebrity status. The top videographers are paid at a premium for their skills and talents.
Videos are created out of passion for the story subject. Children’s birthdays now have video coverage also. We create online videos about flags because it’s our passion. We create funny videos of our friends to strengthen bonds. We take videos of our heroes to keep ourselves motivated. These are the reasons we start making videos. To entertain our audience. To generate intrigue. To stimulate thoughts.
Video is now becoming a secondary language for this generation. From my own experience I’ve had more success learning from video tutorials compared to the written counterpart. People have spent most of their lives exposed to videos and have grown accustomed to the appeal of this medium. Subtle camera movements, angles, and invisible edits are so natural to us.
Some think that owning the most expensive video cameras will make them into find film makers. It’s true technology has advanced so far in the field of videography but they fail to rembmer, a camera is just a tool. It cannot think creatively or tell stories. A video camera can only achieved as much as you skill level. Great videography comes from brains and not sensors or lenses.
Great videography is an art and a craft. The more you practice the better you become. When I first started making videos it was hideous, but still fun. In this day and age, any video camera and computer can do the work of an entire film crew. Lights, audio, steadiness, and video editing. HD video is now becoming standard for smart phones. At the end of the day, it’s theses videos that teach us and entertain us.
